"Have to": meaning, explanation and examples.
Have to it's a semi-modal verbs, it acts like a verb the majority of time but it needs another verb to make sense. It's means "tener que" o "no tener que" and it's used to indicate an obligation or necessity, that is to imposed by others, we are talking about a responsibility.
Structure: SUBJET + AUXILIARY + HAVE TO/HAS TO + VERB
Remember that "have" hanges depending on the pronoun with which it's conjugated. |
Affirmative form:
SUBJET + HAVE TO/HAS TO + BASE FORM OF THE VERB.
Ex. You have to wear uniform at work. (obligation)
I have to study for the exam. (necessity)
Negative form:
we need the auxiliaries (don't/doesn't) to form negative.
SUBJET + DON'T / DOESN'T+ HAVE TO + BASE FORM OF THE VERB.
Ex. I don't have to wear uniform for my job because I'm a teacher.

Question form:
we need the auxiliaries (do/does) to form question.
