When it comes to buying airline tickets for your vacation, you have many options. You can buy tickets directly from the airline, or you can go to a travel agency and talk to a travel agent who can help you find the best deals. Many people prefer online travel agencies, such as Travelocity, Expedia or Orbitz, where they can compare prices, book flights and hotels, and even book a rental car.


Vocabulary: Kinds of tickets and trips

  • airline - an ‘airplane company.
  • travel agent - a person who helps other people buy airline tickets and arranges travel plans for people.
  • travel agency - a company that helps people organize their travel plans (travel agents work in travel agencies).
  • online travel agency - a travel agency that is on the Internet
  • offer(s) - special prices; cheap prices; bargain; sales
  • flight - an airplane trip ('fly' is a verb; 'flight' is a noun)
        a direct flight
        a non-stop flight
  • reserve - to set aside; to keep something aside so that you can use it later
  • The local train: means the train that is close by and convenient to get to.
  • The express train: usually means a very fast train that only goes to/from one point to another
        a one-way ticket 
        a round-trip ticket
  • rental car - a car that you pay to use for a short period of time
